Jessica’s Bookshelf – Emotional Currency by Kate Levinson
Emotional Currency
A Woman’s Guide to Building a Healthy Relationship with Money
by Kate Levinson
✍️ Synopsis:
Emotional Currency explores the emotional and psychological aspects of money, especially how it impacts women. Levinson draws on her background in psychotherapy to delve into the deep-seated beliefs, anxieties, and emotions that shape our financial behaviors and decisions.
👍🏻 What I Liked:
Levinson’s approach to money as both a practical and deeply personal issue aligns with my own experience balancing career success and family life. The book provides tools to reflect on how past experiences and relationships have impacted financial decisions.
Levinson’s exercises serve as a valuable tools to integrate my financial insights with family planning and goal-setting.
👎🏻 What I Didn’t Like:
I found myself wanting more concrete financial strategies or business-oriented advice, which Levinson doesn’t heavily focus on. Since I’m used to a practical approach in my business and life, the book’s focus on feelings around money, rather than actionable financial planning tips, did not fully meet my needs.
⭐️Rating: 3.5 Stars
⚡️Would I Recommend It?
I’d recommend Emotional Currency to my fellow female entrepreneurs because it goes beyond the usual financial advice, offering a unique look at the emotional factors that influence our relationship with money. As businesswomen, we’re constantly balancing professional goals with personal responsibilities, and Levinson’s insights help us explore how our backgrounds, values, and even our insecurities play into our financial choices.
“Frustration, despair, angst, anxiety, hurt, grief, unhappiness, envy, jealousy, and all the other painful emotions are catalysts of change in our lives. They motivate us to do things differently, to change our status quo.”
